NSPCC – Childline – The Full Story

Child sexual exploitation (CSE) is a complex issue which can take many forms. In most cases, young people are deceived into exchanging sex (or sexual images) for drugs, alcohol, or other gifts. Grooming methods used can be subtle, so young people often don’t recognise anything is wrong or that they are in danger.

Whilst others might blame themselves for what they are experiencing, some are being blackmailed or threatened by their abuser, causing them to remain silent due to fear. There are typically four stages to the grooming process, which can happen either online or face-to-face: targeting, befriending, friendship/relationship, and abuse.

With our campaign The Full Story, we want to raise awareness of the impacts of CSE, and remind young people that Childline is a confidential, non-judgemental and safe space which can help them feel more in control and decide what they want to do next.
